Car Tools You Should Have in Your Vehicle

All drivers have the same dilemma, do we have to have car tools in our car or not? My advice to you is: YES! Either you drive a new car, used car, rental car, etc. I strongly recommend that you always have some basic tools in your car. I know you will say, why do I need all of this stuff, it takes a lot of space in my trunk, theirs always road service, someone will stop to help me, etc.

As we have mentioned before, this blog is for people who want to know how to help themselves on the road and get out of trouble, especially if its a small car problem. Trust me, there is not an open road on earth where you cant get into trouble and get stuck.

Being able to help yourself, being self-reliable can often be a lifesaver and at ends, save you a significant amount of money and time. Believe me, and this is from experience, having the basic tools in your car can be very helpful in emergency situations. So, we will start with the basic tools:

  • Car Jack
  • Tire wrench – usually comes with the carjack
  • Emergency fluorescent vest very useful at night
  • Jump start cables (use the quality ones)
  • Spare light bulbs (for the headlights, taillights. Position lights, etc.)
  • First aid emergency kit (always have a new one)
  • Spare tire (have it always in good shape)
  • A towing bar or a towing cable
  • Emergency flashlight, possibly one that can be connected to the car installation (so you don’t run out of batteries)
  • Emergency signalization (emergency triangle)
  • Screwdriver (possibly a combined one with various connections)
  • Wrenches, have the basic set of wrenches that are a match to the cars nuts and screws
  • A pair of pliers (the basic kind)
  • Basic isolation tape
  • A tool case to put all of this inside

All of these are the most commonly used tools for car repair. I advise to have these, if not in your car, then have them in the house.

These tools are more or less in the basic equipment of the car, if you don’t have them, buy them, they don’t cost a lot of money and you find can them on a gas pump or any better equipped car-part store. In reality, these tools don’t take a lot of space and after you have all of these in your car you are much safer in case you get a car problem.

They are also useful for various repairs around the house. The offer of tools on the market is big and you have it all. From cheap tools, that are mostly useless, medium (hobby) quality (which I recommend), to high-quality tools that people use for professional repair.

Also, you can buy, in medium quality, nice sets, that come in their own casings where you have the essential tools. They don’t take a lot of space and come in very handy. Whatever you decide, don’t buy the cheap stuff, it often ends in buying more quality tools and more money spending. Not to mention the possible hazard of injuring yourself or not being able to repair the car. If you decide to more independent on the road, do it right or don’t do it all.
