You should perform routine monthly checks for all of the fluids that are in your car, and pay attention to the levels of the fluids. A decreased fluid level could indicate that something is wrong. Whilst you are checking your transmission fluid levels, also look at the color of the fluid. Transmission fluid is red and transparent in color. If the fluid in your car appears cloudy, this could indicate a problem.
Also, note the smell of the fluid. Transmission fluid should not have a burnt smell. Cloudy or abnormal smelling transmission fluid must be changed immediately.
A car that vibrates or shakes whilst it is in motion could have transmission issues. If the car hesitates to change gears, you should take your car to a mechanic as soon as possible because that is a clear sign that your transmission is in trouble.
