Using Snow Chains on your Tires: A Warning

If you are driving your car during the winter season, then you will really appreciate the help of tire snow chains. You will be driving under slippery road conditions that can put your life at risk.

However, the tire snow chains will only benefit you if you know how to fix them properly.

It is highly advisable that you use tire chains when you are driving along snowy or icy roads. The tire chains provide more traction and you will find it, relatively speaking, easier to handle your vehicle during such weather conditions.

In order to do this, you will need your car’s manual and tape measure.

What you want to use the tire snow chains for and the size of your tires will determine the type of chains to use. For example, a heavy-good vehicle will require a different chain from that used in a regular car. Take measurements of the tires you use when you want to shop for the right tire snow chains.

It is a good idea to practice fitting the tire snow chains before the onset of the winter season. However, do not drive with them on the road. Ensure that you try fitting the chains when the car rests on level ground to be safe. You do not normally require any tool to fit the chains.

Another important consideration is being aware of the regulations and laws in a given area. You may not be allowed to drive without the tire snow chains in places that often experience heavy snowfall.

Can You Use Tire Chains on Patched Tires?

There is no doubt that you will have no problems with using the tire chains on good tires. However, you are probably wondering whether you should use the chains if you have a patched tire. Will your safety still be guaranteed when you put them on patched tires?

You can indeed use the tire chains on patched tires to get the same benefits mentioned above. Here are the reasons why you can use the chains on such a tire.

Patching a tire can make a tire quite durable and such a tire will have just as much integrity as the one that has not been patched. What is important is for the patching to be done well.

If you are worried about the wear of the patched tire, then there is really no reason for it because the chains will provide better traction, which will help to protect the tire.

However, you should check with the local authority before you use tire chains on a patched tire. This will help you to know the regulations, which may include how a tire should be patched and where the patch can be.
